ABOUT

What Frame Junkie is for

Frame Junkie is a small independent magazine about film, television, and the wider pop-cultural weather. We write retrospectives, essays, and reviews, in roughly that order of affection. We do not do news. We do not do listicles. We do not do press-junket interviews dressed up as criticism.

The argument we believe in: a film, a season of television, or an album is worth more words a year after it lands than it is on the week of release. The hot take is a discipline. The cold take, when done well, is a craft. We are trying to do the craft.

The site was founded in 2024, went dark for a stretch when our server died, and came back in April 2026 because we missed it. That’s the whole story. No venture funding, no sponsored content, no subscription tier. If you find something here worth reading, tell a friend.

The rules

  • No reviews written from press screenings with an embargo.
  • No scores out of ten, no stars, no tomatoes.
  • Sentences before arguments, arguments before takes.
  • If we’re going to be mean, we have to be right.
THE MASTHEAD
SENIOR CRITIC
Lena Ashworth
Prestige film, auteur cinema, awards-season retrospectives

Lena writes long-form essays on the films that will still be talked about in a decade. Previously at a defunct monthly whose name we do not speak.

STAFF CRITIC
Marcus Vell
Genre, cult, studio chaos, movies with knives in them

Marcus believes good criticism is an argument. He is almost always angry about something, usually for good reason. Horror is his first language.

TV & CULTURE EDITOR
Priya Nair
Prestige TV, limited series, cross-medium essays

Priya came to criticism sideways from theatre. She is patient with slow shows, short with bloated ones, and cheerfully vicious about lazy writing.

FEATURES WRITER
Jules Okonkwo
Music-adjacent film, editorials, relaunches, the Dylan beat

Jules writes the kind of pieces that come from wandering somewhere and overhearing something. On Frame Junkie's masthead since the beginning.

INDUSTRY DESK
Casey Winters
Studio deals, streaming mergers, strikes, executive shuffles, the money

Casey covers the business of film and television for Frame Junkie. Previously five years on the trade-publication beat; refuses to share the exact masthead. Writes short, rarely takes a side, usually gets the number right.
